Catherine S. Shaker MS/CCC-SLP, BCS-S , a Neonatal/Pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist in Florida, is an international educator, presenter and consultant. She has advanced training in both clinical/ instrumental assessment and treatment of neonatal/pediatric swallowing and feeding and its disorders. With more than 47 years’ experience, Ms. Shaker is internationally recognized as an expert in swallowing/feeding across the continuum of pediatric settings, including neonates, medically fragile infants, and children through school age, most recently with Advent Health for Children. She is an ASHA Board Certified Specialist in Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders, one of the unique group of speech-language pathologists nationally who have earned this designation. Ms. Shaker has been an integral part of large Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Units for over 40 years and is known for her work on Cue-Based Feeding approaches in the NICU. She received the National Association of Neonatal Therapists (NANT) Pioneer Award in 2015. Parents in the NICU often call her “The Preemie Whisperer” for her unique ability to understand and support infant communication during feeding.   Ms. Shaker has published several manuscripts on NICU intervention and co-authored The Early Feeding Skills Assessment Tool for NICU Infants with Suzanne Thoyre, PhD, RN of UNC/Chapel Hill. She has provided Video Fluoroscopic Swallow Studies for neonates, infants and children, and is certified in Neuro Developmental Treatment (NDT), Vital Stim, and SOS (The Sequential Oral Sensory Approach to Feeding), and trained in Pediatric FEES. Ms. Shaker is an invited lecturer across the US & internationally for physicians, nurses and therapists. Attendees at her conferences come from across the globe, including: Spain, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, the UK, Canada, Greece, Korea, Australia, Germany, Switzerland  and Japan,  and from coast to coast in the US. She is known for her passion for lifelong learning, critical thinking and the evidence-base, and building attendees’ confidence and competence for real-life problem-solving.
